A Basketful of Bargains {Thrift Store Thursday}
My last trip to the thrift store was definitely a good one. I spent about half an hour at the Goodwill Outlet and walked away with all of this:
- Balderdash game – complete except for the “pawns”
- Wrought iron cookbook stand
- Card deck of ice breaker and party game ideas
- Package of paper doilies for making Valentines
- Brown fabric canvas with bird (it’s square, not rectangular)
- Paperback copy of Something From Nothing
- Paperback copy of The Book of Virtues
I was hoping to find some clothes for our little boy, but everything at the Outlet is always hit-or-miss and apparently that particular day was a miss for baby clothes.
Still, not a bad find for 30 minutes’ worth of treasure hunting . . . and $3.32.
{Pardon the awful pictures – I took them in the car with my iPod.}
The Revival of Thrift Store Thursdays
Last year I started Thrift Store Thursday, but it sort of melted away after a couple of weeks. I think I had too many weekly themes to keep up with and just got burnt out.
But, a new year brings a fresh start; I’ve dropped all the other weekly themes and will be picking up Thrift Store Thursday again. To get things started, I thought I’d link up two of my favorite finds that I shared last year – this pair of adorable vintage tap shoes, and these gorgeous lace pillowcases.
Next week I’ll start posting new finds again. In the meantime, I’d love to hear about your recent thrifting adventures! Leave a note, or a link to your own blog post, in the comments.
Empty Frames
I picked up these picture frames a few months ago at The Love of Jesus Thrift Store in Richmond. It’s one of those places that seems to price things randomly. You know, where two identical vases could easily have two vastly different price tags. Their picture frames are priced like that. Sometimes you can find an awesome deal and sometimes you have to wonder what on earth the pricing crew was thinking.
Apparently these frames arrived on a good day. I got six or seven of them and they were all marked either $0.25 or $0.50. They don’t have backs, and some of them don’t have hanging hardware, but they all matched and I thought they would be perfect for a project.
They’ve been spread across my dining room table for the past couple of days, so I thought I would share them as this week’s “find.” This weekend I’ll post pictures of what I did with them!
Have you been thrift shopping recently? What great treasures did you unbury?
Tiny Taps
I first saw these tiny tap shoes about a month ago. They were tucked into the back of the children’s shoe rack and they didn’t have a price. I admired them. Wondered how old they were. What little girl they had belonged to. If she had enjoyed tap classes. Then I put them back.
About a week later I was back in the store and the shoes were still there. Still without a price. And I still couldn’t come up with a good reason to buy them. So again I admired them and put them back.
Another week went by and I was at the store again. Everything was 50% off. I picked up some items to add to my fabric stash and got ready to check out, when I thought to take a peek at the shoe section again. The little taps were still there. Still without a price, but still calling my name. This time I went ahead and took them up to the counter.
I was happily surprised when the cashier offered them to me for $1, but even more pleased when she then proceeded to take off an additional 50%, bringing these adorable, vintage taps to just $0.50!
One day I might display them in my dance studio. But for now I’ll just keep them on the bookshelf, where I can see them often and wonder about the little girl who danced in them a long time ago.
Thrift Store Thursday {linens ‘n lace}
Today marks the first post of my new weekly series, Thrift Store Thursday. It’s great timing, considering yesterday was National Thrift Store Day. Each week I’ll share a thrift store find, usually my own, but I might highlight someone else’s treasures from time to time.
You’re invited to participate as well! Just leave a comment about your latest bargain so we can all ooh and aah with you.
If you have a blog, feel free to share a link to your post.
Here’s my latest “steal.” I got these pillowcases for just $0.75 total at The Clothes Rack in Richmond. Look at all that sweet lace!
Does anyone know what type of flowers these are?
Your turn! What fabulous bargains did you find recently?
Fashion Quiz & Thrift Store Thursday
Here’s a short, simple fashion quiz to take just for fun. According to this, my style is classic, which was not a big surprise. Supposedly my style fantasy is to find a Chanel jacket at Goodwill. Quite honestly, my only acquaintance with Chanel is my mother’s Chanel No. 5 perfume. However, I was thrilled to find a Charlotte Russe dress at Goodwill about a month ago.
Which leads me to a new feature I’m going to start here this week. Thrift Store Thursday. I’ll be highlighting bargains I’ve found at thrift stores, either to use as-is, or to makeover.
If you take the MyStyle quiz, be sure to come back and let me know what style you got!
