The Sunday List {September 5, 2010}

This post is dreadfully late. And rather short. I blame it on the holiday weekend. Here it is at last.

The Sunday List {August 22, 2010}

The Sunday List is back! Here’s what I’ve discovered in the first week since we’ve had internet access again:

  • Whoopie Pies. An entire book devoted to them. And a yummy post at Bakerella (accompanied with pictures, of course) detailing her first batch. Mmmm.
  • While we’re talking food, I’ll go ahead and mention Canelle et Vanille, a stunning food blog I stumbled across this week. Former Ritz-Carlton chef Aran Goyoaga is now a stay-at-home mom, but still nurtures her love for cooking. Her recipes look tasty and her photography will make you drool. I think I want to be a food stylist/photographer now, thank you.
  • Every Friday, Julia of Hooked on Houses posts about houses from movies and tv. My favorites are Meg Ryan’s dwellings as Annie in “Sleepless in Seattle” and Kathleen Kelly in “You’ve Got Mail,” as well as Barton Cottage in “Sense and Sensibility.” The bad real estate photos are also great entertainment!
  • I didn’t just find this dress this week, but I absolutely love it. I bought it at JCPenney just in time to wear to my bridal shower – and then to our rehearsal dinner. (Okay, and I’m wearing it now.)

The photo of the week is from our wedding. Thank you, Caroline!

Grandma’s Pearls

I borrowed my grandma’s pearls for my wedding and Caroline Ghetes captured this beautiful memory of Grandma fastening them around my neck.

The Sunday List {June 27, 2010}

  • Isn’t this framed chalkboard gorgeous? I love the juxtaposition of the simple, unrefined chalkboard with the ornate frame.
  • These recipe tea towels from Mozi are the perfect blend of functionality and whimsy. I also like their red wren tea towel (try saying that five times fast).
  • I wandered across this hand-knitted lace shawl today and immediately taken with how delicate, feminine, and soft it appears.
  • This week I discovered photographer Jaime Delaine and have fallen in love with her work.
  • This beautiful dress is definitely out of my budget, but it’s so pretty that I don’t mind just looking at the photos.

Royal Menagerie

This week’s featured Etsy shop is a mixture of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Anne of Avonlea. Royal Menagerie creates accessories that are far from practical, but every bit romantic and reminiscent of a favorite fairy tale. My personal favorite is the crowns section of the shop, where beautiful headpieces with names like Rachel, Vermillion Acres, and Many Suns reside. These are perfect for brides, bridesmaids, and flower girls, but they would also be beautiful additions to many everyday wardrobes, or to a little princess’ dress-up collection.

Royal Menagerie also carries hair combs, jewelry, and other accessories and is currently running a fabulous sale. Here’s a sampling of what they have to offer:

Detour to Dancing

Wow, what a week! The state homeschool convention was this past weekend and, since I’m one of the coordinators, I’ve been so busy since last Monday that I haven’t had a chance to check my e-mail, much less blog.

Michael’s birthday was also over the weekend, on the last day of convention. So, tired as we were, we headed out to dinner, rather than joining in on the traditional after-convention pizza party. Before we had decided on a restaurant, Michael suggested we go dancing. We’re crazy. We had been on our feet for 14 hours a days, three days straight, and were running on about four hours of sleep a night, and here we were deciding to go dancing.

But it was worth it. We only stayed for an hour and my feet were have a little trouble keeping up with me, but it was absolutely wonderful. I can hardly wait till we have our house finished and can dance in our family room.

Now I need to work on my sewing skills so that I can make myself a dress like this one:

The Sunday List {June 6, 2010}

  • Isn’t this Soda Fountain dress just adorable! It’s available at ModCloth in four different colors, but I think the raspberry and grape are my favorites.
  • The Secret Recipe blog is updated weekly with copycat recipes based on the foods found at popular restaurants around the country.  It’s not soup season yet, but once autumn comes ’round, I’ll definitely be giving Panera Bread’s Broccoli Cheddar soup a try!
  • Did you see that I’m giving away a box of goodies here at Honey and Cheese? All it takes to enter is a comment on the giveaway post.
  • This DIY picnic canopy from This Old House looks like a simple weekend project to lovely-up a backyard eating area.
  • This blog series about eating on $1 a day is fascinating. The writer took on the challenge of grocery shopping and eating with just a $1/day average, after a debate with his sister about whether or not it was possible. He started with absolutely nothing in his pantry (not even salt and pepper!), and he frequently admits to a grave lack of cooking skills, so his first month’s worth of meals were very repetitive, but it was interesting to see what he was able to come up with, and I was actually surprised at how healthy he was able to keep many of his meals – he never went a day without fresh fruits and veggies.
