The Girl Behind the Blog
Welcome!
It’s so nice to see you here. I’m Rebekah.
Asked to describe myself in three words, I would probably choose Jesus-lover, dreamer, and beauty-seeker. {Hyphenations count, right?} Unfortunately, that still leaves the bio-seeker with a bit to be desired. I am a wife, married for just over a year to my best friend, the one I love. I am a dancer and a dance teacher. I am a child, a sister, a friend. A collector, of teacups and books. {So many books!} I like to sing, to cook, to write, to create. I could happily live on a diet of chocolate, fruit, and sweet tea. My heart longs to be back in India, with the children that I love.
I married Michael, my best friend, the one whom my soul loves, in July of 2010, and my life has been sweeter ever since. There’s nothing I love more than being with him.
I am not homeschooling, as we don’t have children, but both Michael and I were homeschooled. In fact, homeschooling is still a huge part of our lives, as we’re the registration coordinators for our state’s annual convention.
After over a year of work on our house, it’s almost completely renovated. There’s still some work to do, but most of the major things are checked off the list – and I have a kitchen sink! Now I’m looking forward to being able to devote more resources to our yard next spring.
Honey and Cheese is my little nook where I share my ramblings, Jesus-lessons, and small bits of beauty I stumble upon (which I also share on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest). I also desire to encourage stay-at-home daughters through A Lady in Waiting.
And, just in case you’re just as good at procrastinating real life as I am (dishes? who needs to do dishes?), here are a few random snippets about me that will either entice you to keep coming back to see what I share next, or make you want to run away as fast as you possibly can.
- I’ve been to India six times, Singapore twice, and to Canada and Venezuela one time each. I’ve seen the insides of airports in several more countries, but that doesn’t really count.
- I don’t like shoes.
- I’m currently barefoot.
- If So You Think You Can Dance ever had an audition in my neck o’ the woods, you can bet I’ll be there.
- I might even audition for American Idol if they’re ever around here.
- My talents with a musical instrument are limited at best, but I do love (playing at) playing the piano and the cello
- I start a lot of sentences with “and.”
- I could drink sweet tea by the gallon.
- I have a large collection of children’s books.
- I’m learning how to turn scribblings and doodles into bonafide journaling.
- My life revolves around Jesus. I talk to Him frequently throughout the day and you just might hear me talking about Him here on this little blog.
- You can read my opening post on Honey and Cheese here.

cute blog! thanks for stopping by mine! i love going barefoot, books, and Jesus too! but not necessarily in that order.
You sound like my kind of friend! We have many similarities and your house adventure sounds like great fun (and a lot of work!). Good luck with it all. I also collect teapots, and books, and books, and even cookbooks! I wish you much happiness in your new marriage – may it be “new” to you two always! I am at the other end of the spectrum – I am a grandma living alone (kinda like it!) but I really miss having a big ol house with lots of character and the acres to mow (or not!). I have been kinda looking at a place online out in the Olympic Peninsula in WA. I have made two trips out to that area and love it and the scenery is fantastic!! I am a big Twilight fan so I went out there for Stephenie Meyer Day & fell in love with the area. Good luck with the blog too. It is a good idea!
I hope you have graduated from the bath sink for dish washing. I had no kitchen cabinets, sink or anything for 6 weeks & did the dishes on the porch in a bucket! It was worth the wait.
I envy your travels ~ do all you can while you are able. I hope you keep blogging as your style is enjoyable.
Yes, we have! (I guess I need to update this page.
). Someone blessed us with a utility sink about 3 months after we got married. It’s been fabulous! And in about three more weeks we should have my new apron-front sink installed.
hey it’s great to meet you! You stopped by my blog fro the Relevant link up!! I would love to hear your encouragement for homeschooling! Today is my 1st day ever!! My son is in 4th!
You asked about the Flamingo. YEs. There is a story. This is a link from my personal blog but after reading it I realized it needed updated. http://www.1crazyjourney.com/2008/09/introducing-flamingo-mama.html
